Στο μουσείο, δόθηκε το συγκεκριμένο όνομα, προς τιμήν των Ulma, της οικογένειας Πολωνών, την οποία δολοφόνησαν οι Γερμανοί Ναζί, επειδή προστάτευε Εβραίους. Στις 24 Μαρτίου 1944, Γερμανοί στρατιώτες, πυροβόλησαν και σκότωσαν οκτώ Εβραίους τους οποίους έκρυβαν οι Ulma, πριν σκοτώσουν τον Józef Ulma, τη σύζυγό του Wiktoria Ulma η οποία ήταν έγκυος και τα έξι παιδιά τους.
Το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών της Πολωνίας, διοργανώνει σειρά εκδηλώσεων και διαλέξεων σε 37 διπλωματικές αποστολές σε 28 χώρες, με σκοπό την συμβολική εκδήλωση μνήμης για όσους έχασαν τη ζωή τους προσπαθώντας να σώσουν συνανθρώπους τους.

This Thursday (March 17th), the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland is announcing the official launch of the Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews in World War II, which is held in the town of Markowa in the South-East of Poland.
Since last year the Department for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of MFA has been in constant contact with the Marshal Office of the Podkarpackie Region, the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), in particular IPN Branch in Rzeszów and IPN Branch in Cracow and the Museum’s curators aiming to do publicity for this significant and symbolic event.
Poland’s diplomatic missions abroad are also very much engaged in the numerous events marking the launch of the Museum by commemorating and raising awareness of Poles who risked their lives during the Nazi German occupation of Poland.
The program of events organized by thirty seven Polish diplomatic missions in twenty eight countries is including the short lectures, the opening ceremony of the Museum streamed live, the showcase of the exhibition “The Good Samaritans from Markowa” prepared by the IPN Branch in Cracow as well as video presentation of the Museum. Live streaming from the opening ceremony will be presented by Poland’s missions in Vienna, Brasilia, Paris, Tel Aviv, Toronto, Vilnius, Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Oslo, Bern, Bangkok, Rangun, Washington, Chicago, New York and Rome.

Video presentation about the Museum is brought to the viewers in 11 languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Portugese, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Slovakian as well as Georgian).
The exhibition “The Good Samaritans from Markowa” curated by IPN Branch in Cracow (curator, dr Mateusz Szpytma is available via [email protected], ph. +48 12 2892064) was prepared in 14 languages, among them Chinese, Burmese and Thai.
The section for historical diplomacy, MFA, provided Poland’s diplomatic and consular missions with the educational materials, including documentaries “ Świat Józefa” ( Joseph’s World) by Rafał Wieczyński, “Stella” - the documentary that tells the story of Stella Zylbersztajn-Tzur from Haifa, by Maciej Pawlicki. The other materials include a book by dr Mateusz Szpytma “The Risk of Survivial. The Rescue of the Jews by the Polses and the Tragic Consequences for the Family from Markowa”.
We kindly invite you to see the exhibition at the Ulma Family Museum in Markowa. The museum named in honour of the Polish Ulma family, who were shot there by the Nazi-German occupiers for sheltering Jews. On 24 March 1944, German policemen shot eight Jews who were being sheltered by the Ulmas, together with Józef Ulma and Wiktoria Ulma (who was pregnant) and their six children.
